As part of staff professional development in PE, we decided as a team to look at the area of Gymnastics to upskill and improve on. We had a Gymnastics teacher come into the school for 6 weeks to do weekly Gymnastics workshops with the children. The class teachers shadowed and observed the teaching of Gymnastics in the hope that it would build on their confidence in teaching Gymnastics at that class level in the future.

We invested in new Gymnastics mats before beginning our workshops as these were vital resources needed to ensure the safety and comfort of all children taking part.

Warming up in the classroom for our dance lesson… we’ve really enjoyed the dance strand!

The games strand is going well with 5th Class making good use of the basketball court!

Bhí spórt agus spraoi againn ag damhsa sa halla i gcomhair Seachtain na Gaeilge! Bhain na páistí go léir an taitneamh as an gCéilí!
Staff and students spent some time over Seachtain na Gaeilge learning some Irish dances for the Céilí Mór. The Infant Classes had fun learning The Rakes of Mallow. 1st and 2nd Classes took on The Walls of Limerick and had a great time teaching the Infant classes how to do the dance. At the end of our Céilí, some girls from 6th Class showed us the dance moves to An Dreoilín.

We agreed to endeavour to implement a whole school yearly plan for Strands and Fundamental Movement Skills. This plan was drawn up and distributed to all staff. Fundamental movement skills posters have a place in the school hall where everyone can see them and use them. Click the link below to view our suggested yearly plans:

Improving our running techniques as part of the Athletics strand so we’re ready to take on the Run Around Ireland Challenge!

Our Equipment Monitors did a wonderful job clearing out the PE equipment room and arranging everything neatly. Now everyone can access PE equipment easily! Thanks to all the children who helped with the tidy up!
